snow days

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.” // Lewis Carroll

It's a rare occasion that I'm on the lens side of the camera, + it's an even rarer occasion that East Tennessee gets enough snow to talk about. We've had 2 big snow storms this year. The first brought about 4 inches, + the one from last night totaled 6-7ish inches in my front yard. College was closed so there wasn't any way I was going to miss taking some time off from homework, throwing snow at my sisters, + making a snowman, + making memories. It was good.

My mom held the camera and snapped what turned out to be a very accurate story of our everyday lives- filled with fun, goofiness, some hollering, something in someones face, creativity, + lots + lots of laughter. Enjoy this little story of our snow day.

Fredrick the snowman. If we had named him Olaff or Kristoff...(there's now way we would've named his Hans!) it would've been a little obvious that we're obsessed with that movie. Yeah... anyway.

Happy snowy Thursday :)

sounds of January - a monthly mixtape

January is always full of New Year's Resolutions. Things I decide I want to do, I promise to do, and then things that end up not happening. Well, one of the new things I want to start doing this year is to establish some consistency in posting. I know, I know... I say that every year... maybe even every few months. But this time - I mean it. (everyone laugh with/at me now) :)

So, one of these new things is sharing a monthly mixtape. Stuff I'm listening to, songs I'm obsessed with, moody songs that just fit my moods sometimes. 'Cuz you all are so curious about what I do with my life, right!? Haha, yeah. Me neither. I have a really random taste in music. Just a warning.

Anyhoo, here's January 2014 Mixtape. Enjoy!
(and follow me on Spotify!?)

“Life is not a race-but indeed a journey. Be honest. Work hard. Be choosy. Say "thank you," "I love you," and "great job" to someone each day. Go to church, take time for prayer. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh. Let your handshake mean more than pen and paper. Love your life and what you've been given, it is not accidental - search for your purpose and do it as best you can. Dreaming does matter. It allows you to become that which you aspire to be. Laugh often. Appreciate the little things in life and enjoy them. Some of the best things really are free. Do not worry, less wrinkles are more becoming. Forgive, it frees the soul. Take time for yourself - plan for longevity. Recognize the special people you've been blessed to know. Live for today, enjoy the moment.”

----------------------------------------------------------------

Think about your life today. Our hearts beat an average of 108000 times every day + at any moment it could just stop. Bam.

Are we living like today could be our last? Seriously think about it. We should be serving, encouraging, loving, failing, getting up, learning, laughing, preaching, teaching, growing, trying, working, experiencing, fearing, conquering, + giving it our all. Not so that at we can have a great resume, or check lots of stuff off of our bucket list... but so that we can honestly + humbly say "Here am I, Lord. Send me!"

Life is a great gift - and we should be living like it is.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

A Mulky Gap Christmas

Christmas is a time full of family, food, laughter, + many many memories. Typically I'm torn between being with my family + taking pictures of my family. What happened at Mulky Gap was a whole day + opportunity like no other. I got to spend a whole day as a fly on the wall with this spectacular family. I watched. I listened. I ate a lot of food. It was spectacular!

Family pictures - with everyone in them! - to start the afternoon off right.

So... this is pretty much how this whole day went. Yeah. These kids were adorable.

This was really cute.

Explaining his personally drawn Christmas card he made just for Aunt Cindy. "So that she'd love me."
Sweet sweet Neeley.

Ok, so this little guy was a ham. An adorable ham.

He needed some help with those Transformers.

New cars on the kitchen floor are the best.

A salt dish. She got excited. I got excited.

We all got excited. Then we laughed at the practicing of "throwing salt."

More ham... just 'cause he's adorable.

I hope you had splendid holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
